E-tropolis Festival 2012 News, Acts, Tickets!

If words like ‘Darker! Harder! Louder!’ are music to your ears, it means that either you know the slogan of one of the most revered festivals you can get into, or that you love the music it promotes. Either way, Sep-15 is the date you should circle in your 2012 calendars for the next run of E-tropolis Festival in Columbiagelaende, Berlin, where the best of EBM, synthpop and industrial music are ready to get you in a fine mood.

The first set of artists who are going to perform in next year’s E-tropolis are now Nachtmahr, Diorama, Grendel, and [X]-RX, quite an appetizing lineup, and definitely one that raises the standards of expectations for next summer’s scene. Organizers wish to thank everyone who took part in their annual poll for their constructive feedback and of course, for the numerous band suggestions.

Tickets are already in pre-sale and both original tickets and 5+1 group tickets, which are as always in high demand, are available in the E-tropolis festival shop: http://etropolis-festival.de/tickets, but also in regular CTS/Eventim and Ticketmaster outlets. You can keep yourself up to date with the latest on E-tropolis festival by visiting the official site: http://etropolis-festival.de, as well as their Facebook page: http://facebook.com/etropolisfestival.

Klangstabil – the Exclusive Viva Music Interview!

Meeting Boris May in person is like taking a deeper look into a mirror and seeing exactly what you want to see. Add to that 3 Klangstabil live concerts – at Nordstern Festival, Amphi Festival and at Nocturnal Culture Night! Klangstabil can rock your world easily if you are attending their concert well prepared to play along and match the energy and subliminal messages on stage. And yes, Klangstabil sounds very different live compared to their CD’s. The quiet, polite, sensitive and intelligent persons you meet in real life become “wild children of any revolution” on stage. And somehow the 2 personalities blend together perfectly. Boris May and Maurizio Blanco are fighting for a better world, starting with themselves. Add to that the fact that not only their personalities are complementary, but even their names stand as symbols of a perfect duality: B. M. and M. B.

The answer to the question: “Is this world perfectible or we should better just live in our own world where everything supports my inner peace” may find an answer today. Enjoy this great interview!

VIVA MUSIC: It is always a pleasure to meet polyglot artists. You sing in German, English and Italian. Still, the feeling one gets while watching you on stage is that the language itself as means of communication is irrelevant. We felt we could understand the language of anger and emotion even when you were playing in German (a language we don’t speak)…

KLANGSTABIL: Our music conveys emotions without filtering them, so you can easily comprehend them. Voice serves as an additional instrument, and we choose language according to its phonetic properties. Italian, for instance, is a very powerful language that can be experienced in a very passionate way. Within only one verse it can switch from inner turmoil to highest happiness and, by doing so, capture the audience. (more…)

Suicidal Romance “Whisper Goodbye” Out Sep-16! Viva Music Review

Tracklist: “Whisper Goodbye (single edit)” * “”Slave Slave (Die Sektor remix)” * “Whisper Goodbye (CeDigest remix)” * “Whisper Goodbye (Psy’Aviah remix)” * “Whisper Goodbye (Reaxion Guerilla remix)” * “Slave Slave (Incubite remix)” * “Deserving of Our Sadness

Before the release of their third album with Infacted Records Memories behind Closed Curtains”, Suicidal Romance come on September-16 with “Whisper Goodbye” – a digital-only single release. Estonian Dmitry Darling (also of Freakangel) and Viktoria Seimar propose for their new album a lot of expectations, as their killer lineup includes Felix Marc (Frozen Plasma, Diorama), Pete Crane (Shiv-R), VVA (Ad Inferna) and Art (Freakangel). Shortly after the single release “Whisper Goodbye” we will need to wish them happy return for their new album!

Suicidal Romance – “Whisper Goodbye” – Viva Music Album Review:

Suicidal Romance have accustomed their frequent listeners to quality songs; and their forthcoming single is no exception to this hard rule they set for themselves. “Whisper Goodbye” is clearly a good track, well deserving of its being singled out, although we do not yet know what they have in store for their next full-length release. However, as a stand-alone piece, “Whisper Goodbye” matches perfectly the profile of a single release: it is powerful, clearcut, emotional to a large extent and definitely a song you will keep in mind. With its numerous versions, generously included in the single release, including versions from Die Sektor and Psy’Aviah, the song reaches out a lot more than just its single edit, which is clearly open to more than just one interpretation. Out of the four presented on the digital release, “Whisper Goodbye (Reaxion Guerilla remix)” stands out as a favorite, but this is not to mean that the others fail in any aspect – they are different directions that a song assumes once its raw version is put to good work!

Additionally, the single presents two other tracks, previously unreleased if we are to check against the discography of Suicidal Romance, both appealing sound- and voice-wise, namely two remixes of “Slave Slave” and one particularly persuasive “Deserving of Our Sadness”.

All in all, if the digital single release of “Whisper Goodbye” was meant in any way as an appetizer for the forthcoming album “Memories behind Closed Curtains”, it surely opened our appetite – for their music, but also for the universe of what seems, once again, a very good and presentable effort from Suicidal Romance.

Amphi Festival 2011 – 16&17-Jul, 2011 – Viva Music Review

Day One | Day Two | The Aftermath

Amphi Festival: Day One, Saturday, July-16: General Review | Mainstage | Staatenhaus

General Review

The fact that this year’s Amphi was going to be a success was obvious from the very beginning: people teemed in large numbers, and arrived to the venue earlier that last year. This meant that the first act, [X]-RX had an impressive audience for a first act on the main stage. A breathtaking experience, the 2011 edition of Amphi Festival made us yearn for next year’s festival already! And, as a side-note, given the enthusiasm and size of the audience, Cologne’s Tanzbrunnen may prove pretty soon to be too small a venue for such an excellent event.

Compared to 2010, the number of 2011 participants was significantly higher – a reason to the point might be the diverse lineup – from electronica to gothic, and from noise to darkwave – add to that the excellent entertainment offered in-between, the 100%-giving, outgoing performances of all acts, and needless to say, the tireless, party-oriented audience – all contributed to the overall success of the 2011 edition of Amphi Festival.

Nordstern Festival, Hamburg, 08&09-July 2011: Viva Music Review

Viva Music wants to thank Neuwerk Music Management and all the participants in the first edition of Nordstern Festival for an awesome experience. Let’s do it again!

Day One (below) | Day Two

Day One: July-08, 2011 Nordstern Festival @Markthalle

The venue | SLAVE REPUBLIC | ARCHITECT | KLANGSTABIL | EMPIRION | FROZEN PLASMA | SONO

The venue

Hamburg’s own dark and electro festival debuted with a first evening in the generous venue of Markthalle. With a good club and concert venue layout, Markthalle proved not only to be a very accessible location (in the immediate vicinity of Hamburg’s central train station and with a myriad of means of transportation within reach of the avid concert-goer), but also a plausible choice for the size of the event and the needs of the audience. Bedecked with a no-wait bar, food stand, coatroom and merchandise stands, the venue was impressive, with good acoustics and a wonderful coordination of sound and lighting, thanks to Neuwerk’s team of skilled professionals. Though the 2-day festival passes were sold out before even the event kicked off, the management made a few 1-day tickets available at the front counter, so that late-comers to the festival could enjoy it, too.  back to top (more…)

Felix Marc – “Parallel Worlds” – Viva Music Album Review

Tracklist:
Repair” * “Moscow Paris” * “Collector” * “Opposite Sides” * “Life Is Porn” * “Fields of Grey” * “The Muse” * “Modern Talking” * “The Garden of Light” * “Ghost” * “Mystify” * “Parallel World

About FELIX MARC:

The charismatic 35 year old Felix Marc started making music since 1994; evolving musically as both a member of DIORAMA with his friend Torben Wendt, and FROZEN PLASMA with Vasi Vallis, whom he met after a VNV NATION concert. Actively involved in both acts, he also pursues his solo career; with a beautiful first album entitled “Pathwaysout in 2008, he now returns with a very melodic and respectable album, “Parallel Worlds”, out June-10 with Infracted Records.

FELIX MARC – “Parallel Worlds” – VIVA MUSIC Album Review:

Parallel Worlds” is a very musically complex album, and unlike albums that strive to be utterly creative music-wise, “Parallel Worlds” is very amenable, easy to listen and really enticing. With a very superior sound, the album, made up of 12 tracks, is definitely worth your time and attention.

FELIX MARC ranges among his influences diverse cultural personalities such as CAMOUFLAGE and FALCO, CASPER DAVID FRIEDRICH and W.B. YEATS. Add to that that he “collects ideas while traveling or spending time abroad”, and you get the idea of his creative processes. Not only he creates music on a constant basis, but he also finds the creative inspiration to cover masterpieces of the past, such as INXS’s “Mystify”.

Repair”, the first track of the album, is a very practical, hands-on beginning for the album: an atmosphere-ridden track, it is energetic and depicts beautifully the notion of renewal through a love without pain that is meant to overcome disasters. “Moscow Paris”, with a name redolent of an air flight, is a very electro anthem, about a mind going berserk while being haunted by depressions and the song is in itself very illustrative of that feeling. “Collector” follows, with a very rational and suave tempo, and then it is time for “Opposite Sides”, a VIVA MUSIC favorite from the album; a hopeful but melancholic piece about separation.

Pedro Almodovar said via his literary character Patty Diphusa that “life imitates porn”. FELIX MARC goes a step further stating unequivocally that “Life Is Porn”. With a Tourette-heavy beginning, the song softens up musically, and what it does is to play upon self-irony. The time is ripe for “Fields of Grey”, another wonderful and very melodic track, with a duo of voices that join in a common search for answers to questions and prayers.

The Muse” is a very club-friendly track and its depiction of a battle of angels of inspiration that are meant to reduce creative challenges is an overcoming of creative challenges in itself. After a prompt and alert “Modern Talking”, the next track, “The Garden of Light” electrifies with its very inviting and intimate nature. A very rich song, both in texture and imagery, “The Garden of Light” makes room for “Ghost”, a very powerful song about the ghost of memory.

The album would not have been so complete or replenishing without the addition of two new tracks. One of them, the afore-mentioned cover for INXS’s “Mystify” was thought by FELIX MARC after hearing it on car radio and wanting to capture what seemed to him a perfect moment, he created the perfect cover. Last but not least, his “Parallel World” strikes as a very majestic, opportune and contemporary track about thought-up worlds and thought-up dreams, both with questions, suspicions and inaccuracies that make life a dream that we can choose to either live or dream up.

Parallel Worlds” is a superb album, and we hope to hear a lot of positive feedback about it; since it deserves it fully. It is a vibrant, healthy album one needs to listen to in order to grasp the quality of FELIX MARC’s work. If you are a fan of DIORAMA and FROZEN PLASMA, you should not neglect to look into this creative side of FELIX MARC; and all your expectations will be rewarded.

4 New Bands Confirmed at Amphi Festival 2011

New bands confirmed for the Amphi Festival 2011:

The first new entry not only offers a profound measure to give the chills to your neighbour at the next traffic light, AGONOIZE are in any respect on top of their game! Especially in providing adrenaline-pumped electro sound, there are very few to teach the heavy machinery specialists from Berlin a lesson. Reinforced by visual splatter effects AGONOIZE are infamous for their rough-edged stage performances and nothing for the faint-hearted!

All quiet at the Amphi-front? Not in the slightest! The industrial-bombers FEINDFLUG always enjoy to deliver an action-packed show. After literally laying the Amphi stage in ashes in 2009, Felix and Banane are returning with a sonic thunderstorm, to commemorate the horrors of the World War II.
