Day One: July-08, 2011 Nordstern Festival @Markthalle

The venue

Hamburg’s own dark and electro festival debuted with a first evening in the generous venue of Markthalle. With a good club and concert venue layout, Markthalle proved not only to be a very accessible location (in the immediate vicinity of Hamburg’s central train station and with a myriad of means of transportation within reach of the avid concert-goer), but also a plausible choice for the size of the event and the needs of the audience. Bedecked with a no-wait bar, food stand, coatroom and merchandise stands, the venue was impressive, with good acoustics and a wonderful coordination of sound and lighting, thanks to Neuwerk’s team of skilled professionals. Though the 2-day festival passes were sold out before even the event kicked off, the management made a few 1-day tickets available at the front counter, so that late-comers to the festival could enjoy it, too. back to top (more…)

A rich and provocative year, 2010 meant the release of many new albums from the relevant names from the gothic, industrial and electro scenes, but also the discovery of new artists, that come, layer upon layer of sound, to further enlarge the musical spectrum, reconsider the influences, and at the same time remain under the non-mainstream cone of light.

Viva Music took the third step in making the dark gothic.industrial.synth music known to the Romanian audience on Sunday, December 26, 2010. Our dear friend and supporter, Laurentiu Rusen (thank you, Laur!), Vivi and Adara were guests of the extremely popular “A la chart de week-end”, with Bogdan Crutescu show on Radio Bucuresti (98.3 FM) for the third time.

We are grateful to Bogdan Crutescu for his invitation, and we appreciate his support. It looks like he is turning into an electrohead himself! He favourited Aesthetic Perfection today, namely “The Siren”. We played “The Ones” from the same album – “A Violent Emotion” – on a previous show, so it is great to see Bogdan has already picked a favorite band!

Darkwave.ro Fest review (with photos) november 12, 2010

Viva Music’s Darkwave.ro Fest took place on November 12 at Kulturhaus Bukarest. It is no coincidence that a club with a name inspired by German institution, namely a hall for public events, hosted an event such a Darkwave.ro, which, after all, brought to a Romanian public top acts from Germany’s electro and gothic scenes. The combination of rigor and flamboyance from Kulturhaus’s backdrop contrasted and at the same time found a soul mate in the music performed by SLAVE REPUBLIC, PAINBASTARD, DESTROID and FRANK THE BAPTIST.

Slave Republic: Electric One: album review

SLAVE REPUBLIC (Germany) is Alec Fu (vocals, guitar) and Alex Alice (bass, keyboards). The band recently signed with Accession Records, a label that works with artists such as Diary of Dreams, Assemblage 23, Diorama, Painbastard or Panzer AG.

The duo captures our attention through its very felicitous synthpop style, well on the same line that made you love Duran Duran, IAMX or Diorama.

The material released on March 12 – “Electric One”, has in store all the necessary elements of a sensitive and harmonious album: 11 tracks, on the one hand soothing and gloomy ballads, meanwhile, on the other hand, exciting rhythms and electric beats, perfect for a clubbing night. Add to that a bonus of 2 feverish remixes by Haujobb and Olaf Wollschläger.
