Tracklist: * Another Day (Radio Edit) * A New Foundation * Elusive (Alien Six Remix) * Another Day (Airwolf One Remix) *

Release date: 11 March 2013 with Alien Six Productions

About Tenek: Tenek is an electronica act from electro motherland the UK. They’re actually based in the musician city of the Brits, Brighton. Their history starts in 2007 when they were formed and passes through some milestones up to this day: from opening for legendary band The Human League to playing iconic gothic festivals around Europe, including our very own Darkwave.ro Fest in 2011 – where they pretty much stole the moment for the audience. For eager fans, this EP launch is just a tiny morsel of a tease to their upcoming album due to be released this year.

Tenek – Another Day: Viva Music Review

Tenek has been a long time favorite of ours so it comes as no surprise that we were looking forward to this release. Another Day consists of two new songs and two remixes. The starting track is also the title track of this album, “Another Day(Radio Edit)” – a production complimenting pure synthpop treat that will make electronica fans go on a frenzy on the dance floor. Next we’re brought down tempo with an enchanting, dark track “A New Foundation”, a song that shows this more mature direction in which Tenek has been heading for a while.

The first remix off the album for the 2011 song “Elusive (Alien Six Remix)” feels like a well deserved afterthought for really impeccable creation. We’re thinking it was time to revive this song for the current alternative club scene. The last track, “Another Day (Airwolf One Remix)”, definitely brings a new twist on the song, it’s quite a dandy number to dance to. We enjoyed this almost frustratingly short EP, so give it a listen or twenty before their new album reaches stores this year!

BAS 2013 – Celebrating Basildon’s Musical Heritage

Good news! Viva Music will participate in, and document, one of the most interesting Depeche Mode related events out there in Europe. We are talking about BAS 2013 (the third edition), event which is based on the history-making surroundings of Basildon – the music and cultural heritage of which is known to everyone. Let alone Depeche Mode, the 30 years+ history of Basildon also includes Erasure’s Vince Clarke and Yazoo‘s Alison Moyet. As the organizers put it, the musical Mecca of Basildon attracts many visitors, and there are no statues to honor their heroes – and this is where Bas Productions steps in – by providing a three day musical event in May 2013.

bas_2013_logo

May 2013’s second bank holiday (May 25-27) should be in everyone’s calendar since musicians, DJ’s and enthusiasts are all going to join in a weekend full of love and dancing. Multiple venues and three nights – that’s the real deal and the good news is that’s only the beginning of a one-week once-in-a-lifetime occasion: just one day away from Basildon’s most praised sons, Depeche Mode, take over O2 Arena in London for two consecutive gigs (May 28-29).

bas_2013_flyer

The theme nights – and days! of BAS 2013 are a clever crescendo of entertainment which will provide the needed warm-up for the Depeche Mode concerts. On Saturday, May-25, the evening of ‘BAS Welcome Party‘ will last well into the night, with bands such as Analog Angel, Electro Kill Machine, or Weirdgear, supporting DJ program by Steve Thorogood, and Dpplgngrs. All that in The Edge (formerly known as The Highway),  a pub where Depeche Mode members used to hang out.

On Sunday, May-26 (daytime), it’s time for ‘BAS 2013 Lounge‘ – with Berlin’s DJ Dr. Atmo, and band Cult with No Name. The daytime activities will go on with cult movies revolving around the magic of Depeche Mode and last but not least, an exhibition of art and memorabilia from Basildon’s golden age. As we move toward the evening, the second part of Sunday entitled ‘Live Band Night‘ involved headliners Heaven 17, plus supporting shows from Tenek, Strangers, Kloq, Sinestar and Automatic Writing. Guest DJ’s Dave Charles and Rob Harvey are going to close the evening with their sets.

On Monday, May-27 (daytime) we are in for the ‘BAS Chillout BBQ‘ – with a hog roast and DJ Mixmaster Morris and DJ’s from Depeche Mode London. Speak & Spell play during ‘Sound of Basildon Night‘, with supporting set from Modovar (who are going to offer a tribute for the music of Vince Clarke) and a live segment from Dean M. Oldfield (formerly part of Ba5ic). Guest DJ’s Steve Gray(TEC), and Russel (Crocs) are going to entertain you as the last countdown of 24 hours before the massive Depeche Mode London concerts is set.

2011: A Music Year in Review (Viva Music version)

2011 was a great year for our scene. Just a quick roundup of the acts and artists who released new material this year is sufficient to give you an impression, however fleeting, of the great tumult the scene has caused and the important additions 2011 has brought to our playlists. New releases from VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk, Haujobb, Sopor Aeternus, Covenant, Kirlian Camera and Diary of Dreams kept music lovers on edge and numerous other releases made their days worthwhile throughout the year.

In 2011, Viva Music had the pleasure and honor to listen to and review some 100 albums. In order to read our reviews, you can go to the menu and pick Album Reviews from the Interviews & Reviews section, or navigate using the right-hand visual cover flow. Pluses between brackets in the article lead you to the featured reviews.

Readers’ choice in terms of number of Facebook likes indicate Apoptygma Berzerk’s “Black EP vo.2” (+), Global Citizen’s “Nil by Mouth” (+), Haujobb’s “New World March” (+), The Cruxshadows’ “Valkyrie” (+), Ghost and Writer’s “Shipwrecks” (+), Autodafeh’s “Act of Faith” (+), Tenek’s “EP2” (+), Shiv-r’s “This World Erase” (+) and Covenant’s “Modern Ruin” (+) as top favorites. We have no doubt it was the beauty of the respective albums and not of our reviews that kept them up in the charts!

With numerous releases, the appreciation of the public was unanimous. It was an honor to have around VNV Nation’s “Automatic” (+), Kirlian Camera’s “Nightglory” (+), Diary of Dreams’ “Ego:X” (+),  Sopor Aeternus’ “Children of the Corn” (+), Aesthetic Perfection’s “All Beauty Destroyed” (+), KMFDM’s “WTF?!” (+), And One’s “Tanzomat” (+), Sin D.N.A.’s “Afterlife” (+), Lowe’s “Evolver” (+), IAMX’s “Volatile Times”, Imperative Reaction’s “Imperative Reaction” (+), Necro Facility’s “Wintermute” (+), Amduscia’s “Death Thou Shalt Die” (+), and System Syn’s “All Seasons Pass” (+ ).

No less impeccable and listenable in a loop proved to be a set of albums which, should you have missed them, are up on your shopping list next time you hit a record store. Ad Inferna’s “There Is No Cure” (+), The Pain Machinery’s “Surveillance Culture” (+), God Module’s “Seance” (+), Mona Mur & En Esch’s “Do with Me What You Want” (+), Leaetherstrip’s “Untold Stories” (+), Vic Anselmo’s “In My Fragile” (+), Solar Fake’s “Frontiers” (+), Mina Harker’s “Bittersuess” (+), Lahannya’s “Dystopia” (+), and Lord of the Lost’s “Antagony” (+).

Special mention should be made of Romanian wonders LeVant’s “Beyond the Masque of Eden” (+) and Brazda lui Novac’s “Dizzy” (+).

Let us not forget the beautiful events we were invited to attend, and had the pleasure to experience in 2011. We provided detailed footage both under the guise of reviews and photo galleries at Amphi Festival (+), Nordstern Festival (+), and Nocturnal Culture Night (+). In 2012, we intend to attend to more such events and keep you posted on our beautiful and dynamic scene.

As Viva Music we also organized our own events in Bucharest. You can take a look at the feedback we received for the third edition of our Darkwave.ro Festival (with Tenek, Rabia Sorda and Project Pitchfork, +), for our Combichrist (+) and Kirlian Camera (+) concerts, as well as for our support for the first Nine Inch Nails Tribute in Bucharest (+). We do our best to keep our scene alive and the response we get is always heart-warming and positive.

What was your favorite release in 2011? And what are you looking forward to in 2012?

Torul “Partially Untamed”: Viva Music Album Review

Tracklist: “In Whole (Original Mix)” * “Show Me Your City” * “In Whole (Noir Frais Remix)” * “In Whole (Tenek Remix)” * “In Whole (Bacteria Remix)” * “In Whole (Qualiass Stomp Remix)

About Torul:

With their first single “Try“, Torul managed to launch a first club hit in our scene! The former Low Spirit artist delivers a fine mix of synthpop, electronic sounds and techno influences to create an own musical sound! Often compared to acts such as Sono, Mesh or Iris, the band stands for a unique modern pop sound. “Partially Untamed” is the second outtake of their forthcoming album “In Whole” which will be released early December 2011! This double A-side single is limited to 500 physical units and features the massive tunes “In Whole” + “Show me your city“, as well as various remixes in different musical styles! A true must have for all fans of good electronic pop music! Listen and enjoy! (source: press release)

TorulPartially Untamed”: Viva Music Album Review:

Out at Infacted Records this month, Torul’s newest single, an insolent peek into what their next album, “In Whole”, expected for December this year is going to be, shows alongside the album title track the new song “Show Me Your City” and what’s more, great remixes of the core track, including one by Tenek! Torul sounds resplendent and carefree, and is proposing an intriguing musical experience with “In Whole”, one that builds up with each sound and creates a safe haven of harmonies and emotions, a pretty good hiding place if you’re looking for shelter. The refined instrumental course of the track shapes up against a great vocal experience, and the production of the track shows that it is indeed a title worthy of giving its name to an album. Of equal interest are the reworks of the track included in the single release, as well as the new track. The remixes are all topnotch and you cannot actually single out one that catches the attention more than the rest, because they are all intent on keeping the track’s efficient use of melody and transpose it in different musical surroundings, embellishing it as if showing it around in a museum of mirrors, which instead of distorting the song’s reality, put it in different perspectives, and are all pulling out quintessential elements from Torul’s track.

About Tenek – “EP2:

Available from Monday 10th October on CD & mp3 “EP2” features brand new material from Tenek for 2011. The romantic “What Do You Want?” features none other than Chris Payne on violin. Chris played with Gary Numan from 1979 to 1989 and contributed the awesome violin solos for such tracks as “Complex“, “The Joy Circuit” and “Cold Warning“. Also included on the EP is another brand new song “Elusive” and alternate versions of two of the most popular tracks from their current album “On The Wire“. These serve to remind us of how great Tenek‘s song writing can be and add yet another perspective to some of their best work to date. (source: press release)  (more…)

Darkwave.ro Fest 3 review (with photos) – Dj Luca Ew, Tenek, Rabia Sorda and Project Pitchfork – January 29, 2011

Darkwave.ro Fest 3 (PROJECT PITCHFORK, RABIA SORDA and TENEK live in Cage Club, on January 29, organized by VIVA MUSIC with CLICKNET ROMTELECOM as main partner) came and went with a blast. The only local festival devoted to dark, electro, aggrotech and industrial music in Romania offered for its third edition a generous display of art for art’s sake and genuine musical feeling. Cage Club, unfortunately on its last active day, closed late in the night with a unique fest that welded together different fandoms into a unique, tumultuous crowd.

By 09:00 pm, the official doors open time, people started crowding the club’s venue. Electroheads, Goths dressed up to the nines and even the club’s regular rock scene flowed in and enjoyed DJ LUCA EW’s opening set that mimetized topnotch the evolving’s crowd feelings and will to dance. COVENANT, MIND.IN.A.BOX, but also AND ONE, FADERHEAD and APOPTYGMA BERZERK produced sonic atmosphere and opened the appetite of the audience from Romania, Germany, Great Britain,  Finland – to name just a few of the countries that visited VIVA MUSIC’s fest.

2010 Album Releases You Want to Listen to

A rich and provocative year, 2010 meant the release of many new albums from the relevant names from the gothic, industrial and electro scenes, but also the discovery of new artists, that come, layer upon layer of sound,  to further enlarge the musical spectrum, reconsider the influences, and at the same time remain under the non-mainstream cone of light.
