The Cranberries @Romexpo, Bucharest: Oct-11

Events proudly presents the second Romanian concert of rock/pop sensation of the 1990’s The Cranberries on Oct-11, at 20:00hrs at Romexpo in Bucharest. The concert will be opened by Romanian act The Mono Jacks (we saw their awesome performance in 2011 opening for Suede: Viva Music review & photos).

The Cranberries are a genuine lovemark of the 1990’s and their early hiatus in the 2000’s left many audiences in a melancholy wait for their performances. Known to fuse elegantly and bluntly at the same time Irish lore and poetry (quite a few of their songs dwell on references from the poetry of W. B. Yeats), pervasive rock sounds, and a dark approach to the issues that convulse mankind (wars, addiction, lack of humanity in addressing the world’s problems), the band managed to raise to success within the shortest of whiles. Albums such as “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We” or “No Need to Argue“, which are soon to step into their third decade, procured them a solid audience and their personality left an indelible mark on the way we perceive music today.

With their darker shades, explored mainly in albums such as “To the Faithful Departed” or “Wake Up and Smell the Coffee“, which approach diligently issues such as death, parental carelessness, the effect of war on people, depression, as well as alienation, they not only succeeded in offering a musical feast for their fans, but also open up a personal debate with their listeners on issues that impact our lives. Charismatic lead singer Dolores O’Riordan continued this self-assigned mission even after the band split; her solo albums, released in the mid-2000’s addressing personal issues such as bereavement, death from cancer of beloved ones, and the inability of the individual to cope with the great shattering experiences that shape our world today.

For their 2012 Bucharest concert, The Cranberries propose a musical treat of 2 hours: songs of their musical past, as well as a tour promo of their newest album, released in Feb-12, “Roses“. The Bucharest date of their tour is eagerly awaited by fans – and the venue of Romexpo suits very well the acoustics and audience needs of such a concert. You can purchase tickets here. You can RSVP to the Facebook event here. You can read more about the Romanian promoter of the event here.

Diary of Dreams @The Silver Church Arena, Bucharest Feb-29: Viva Music Review

February 29’s tend to be special occasions – after all, you only witness a couple of them during your lifetime, and they only come every four years. February 29, 2012 was really such a day, since the wonderful performance from Diary of Dreams in Bucharest (their second, after Viva Music‘s own feature of Diary of Dreams in our first Darkwave.ro fest three years ago (photo gallery by Viva Music | event presentation [in Romanian]). It turned out to be an awesome night, with Diary of Dreams offering a well-rounded tour of their oldest and newest, ranging from “False Affection, False Creation” to their last year’s “Mein Eid“, and with a frantic crowd as diverse as you would ever want to witness during a show; with devoted fans who knew all the lyrics to their songs, and were happy to recognize them in the setlist, and with newcomers to the miracles performed on stage by Diary of Dreams.

For full gallery by Viviana Ball/Viva Music and Aridwev Andrei/Tanz die Revolution click here.

Now in the endterm of their 2011-12 Ego:X tour (read Viva Music’s review of Diary of Dreams’ 2011 album “Ego:Xhere), which was offered generously by the band in 30+ venues across the world, Diary of Dreams chose a very wise setlist for their second Bucharest date. It is, as you might well intuit, a rare occasion for a band from our scene to be present for the second time in our beloved Bucharest. but it’s also gladdening news, because during the three years which elapsed since their first Bucharest date, the scene evolved, the concerts and festivals increased in number and became more diverse, and then there are the other events, radio shows, parties and of course, a beautiful community of beautiful people which is there to witness all this bounty. Diary of Dreams came to Bucharest with great enthusiasm and very eager to please their audience – which, at almost full house – welcomed them in their turn with similar keenness and fervor.

After a very enticing “Intro”, Diary of Dreams did not lose time to induct their audience into the fervent and solemn rhythms of “The Wedding”. “Lebenslang” and “Menschfeind” ensued, asking the crowd to show what they got, and then “Chemicals” and of course, an applauded masterpiece such as their “The Plague”. You needed to be there to love their “Reign of Chaos” and “Giftraum”, as well as their great “Ego:X” track “Mein Eid”. From newest – “Mein Eid” to oldest – “False Affection, False Creation” from their 1994 “Cholymelan”. The cavalcade of goodies went on with “Wahn?Sinn!” and “King of Nowhere”, which were responded to ardently, as well as their save-the-best-for-last strategy that meant keeping for the end a great streak that included “Amok”, “The Curse”, and “Butterfly – Dance!”. Toward the end, a great performance of “She and Her Darkness” convinced all attending how successful the night was, and just how much passion was poured by the band into the show.

Diary of Dreams’ performance in The Silver Church Arena was a wonderful occasion to meet old and new friends, to immerse in the captivating atmosphere born from the next to perfect interaction of artists and audience. And we won’t need to wait long for their next performance, because within weeks we are going to report back to you about Diary of Dreams’ performance at Industrial Boom – Reboot Festival from Budapest!

Nine Inch Nails Tribute in Bucharest, Club Fabrica, February 12 – Review, Photos and Videos

VIVA MUSIC is very proud to announce the success of our February 12, 2011 event in Club Fabrica. NINE INCH NAILS Tribute: Are You In?, the first local tribute to address the corpus of work of NINE INCH NAILS, represents the joint efforts of a group of remarkable artists of the Romanian underground and of VIVA MUSIC, efforts that were meant to produce a genuine NINE INCH NAILS experience for the band’s followership and for a tuned-in public, keen on seeing local creativity in tandem with songs that pinpoint the 20+ years of existence of a legendary band.

COVERED IN NAILS, as was self-dubbed the ensemble, is the result of diligent work carried out daily by five relevant artists, who thought up a supergroup pet project as a creative loophole for their respective artistic careers. A well-wrought brotherhood of musicians, COVERED IN NAILS is the brainchild of Stefan Zaharescu (KISTVAEN, DOMINATION, DWARF PLANET), Razvan Ristea (LUNA AMARA), Mihnea Ferezan (LUNA AMARA), Janin Pasniciuc (DEKADENS, ex-ZEBRE, PARTIZAN), and Victor Ferezan (TEP ZEPI), aided by VIVA MUSIC‘s enthousiastic support of the local scene and intelligent logistics. Announced at the end of 2010, the event, taglined as ‘We’re in this together‘, after a NINE INCH NAILS single, meant exactly this kind of exercise in communion and dedication to music for music’s sake.

Nota: Aceste filmari nu reflecta produsul final, ci trebuie catalogate drept ‘work in progress’. Enjoy!

Razvan Ristea – tobe (Luna Amara)

Mihnea Ferezan – chitara/backing vocals (Luna Amara)

Janin ‘Jan’ Pasniciuc – chitara/backing vocals (Dekadens/-ex Zebre, Partizan)

Victor ‘Vava’ Ferezan – bass/backing vocals (Tep Zepi)

Stefan Zaharescu – voce (Kistvaen, Domination, Dwarf Planet)

Combichrist to support Rammstein at Nyc Madison Square Garden

Metropolis recording artists COMBICHRIST have been tapped as main support for RAMMSTEIN‘s first and only show on U.S. soil in ten years at NYC’s legendary Madison Square Garden. The show will take place on Saturday, December 11, 2010.

Rammstein and Combichrist are no strangers to each other. Both bands toured Europe together for four months in 2010, strengthening a tie that ultimately brought them together for what will undoubtedly be an amazing evening of beat-driven metal and industrialized mayhem.

While Rammstein will be returning from a tour of Latin America before this show, Combichrist will have wrapped up their previously announced U.S. Monsters On Tour with Aesthetic Perfection and Ivardensphere as support as well as a handful of dates in Australia. Due to the announced Madison Square Garden date, the previously announced New York City date on November 20th has been canceled (refunds available at point of purchase). In addition, the Montreal, QC on November 18th has been canceled as well. Replacement shows on those dates have been announced in Ithaca, NY and Pittsburgh, PA.
