Tracklist: “Gun” * “The Day You Disappear” * “It’s Hurting Me” * “Strange Convention” * “We Are” * “Into My Arms” * “Dirty Mind” * “Oblivion” * “Stalking Horse” * “Moonlanding” * “Breath” * “Newborn” * “Lost”

Released in October 2010 with Echozone, the debut album from electronic/EBM act Moon.74 is a recent and very pleasant discovery with Viva Music. Although released last year, we thought about sharing some impressions on the album prior to this Friday’s video release (Dec-23) – the first video by Moon.74, with music written by Dominic Hein and remixed by Rico Huellermeier.

“Newborn” is a great find, and we thought the sharing spirit of the coming holidays is the best opportunity to share to Moon.74 fans and Moon.74-curious fans Viva Music’s review. In general terms, everything is superlative, but taking a track-by-track approach might open your appetite for Moon.74’s music, since we believe that the feel good continuum of the album deserves all the attention one can get. The opening track, “Gun”, with its alert and alluring beat made us think of Chekov’s gun, the one he said about, “one must not put a loaded gun on the stage if no one is thinking of firing it”. Gunfires will ensure, this is for sure, but their delicate intricacy might be less evident on a first listen. The glorious music of “Gun”, reverently paying tribute to all the music we like, ranging from Depeche Mode to Apoptygma Berzerk, musicians Moon.74’s Dominic Hein counts among his influences, just like the other tracks compiled on the debut album is pretty long, which might be regarded as a shortcoming in the case of some albums, but with “Newborn” it actually is a blessing. More joy to the world! “The Day You Disappear” mellows out on a similar note, but instead of creating premature plateau, takes up the good feel set by the previous track and makes it deeper and less conjectural. “It’s Hurting Me” as well as “Strange Convention” are ampler in scope, and their electronic efficiency is simply startling. With refined emotion and particularly striking openness, both songs speak up about sentiment in a manner which is intimate and general at the same time, and that makes them great above average. “We Are”, a Viva Music favorite soars in dark undertones and carries a very positive vibe, while also being a quite entertaining dancefloor choice. “Into My Arms” takes up with the same musical benevolence an intense emotional experience and creates unsuspected harmony. “Dirty Mind” shifts a little the composure of previous tracks toward a sexier sound and interest, and with its very teasing core it has a persistent aftertaste. Another memorable track, “Oblivion” exploits the same dark streak featured in “Dirty Mind” and does not seem to settle for a definition, with its very charming sound it reaches out a wider audience than the previous tracks. And after a gemstone such as “Stalking Horse”, the time is ripe for “Moonlanding”, an excruciatingly beautiful track with a very atmospheric and historical tinge of a beginning and relevant musicality. Rougher in both intent and musical rendition, it is followed by the milder “Breath”, only to commit seriously to the same realm of music with the onset of “Newborn”. On listening to the track, all mystery around why it was chosen for the title of the album as well is dismissed; it is a great addition to the album layout and a magnificent soundtrack for our contemporary lives. The ending title, “Lost” is, a very prolific piece of music, that adds to the emotions captured by the album a whole script of beauty and resilience.

Guided by the appealing voice of Dominic Hein, the journey proposed by “Newborn” is an experience worth having in your musical resume. Without adulterated sounds and without unnecessary flourishing, the album is a convincing experiment and definitely proposing a band to keep your eyes open for for live dates and new releases. And do not forget about the video release this Friday!

About Soulchasm:

Soulchasm was started by Eric Dillon out of both a love of music, electronic music more specifically, and a desire long held to have a creative outlet of his own. At first, as an anonymous project working under pseudonyms such as Cklay Lee or Klay d. with no hints as to who was really behind it, the material was dark, muddy, and unrefined, yet still managed to garnish glowing and respectful reviews. After a hiatus, Eric decided to compile the “industry demo” material with some brand new, unreleased remixes, give them a nice remaster, and turn it into a proper release, called “All I Have To Give” It was independently released as a digital album on June 22, 2010. Eric is currently writing and recording material for a brand new Soulchasm album, which he hopes to have released Spring or Summer 2012, and Soulchasm is facing a rebirth of sorts again. When asked what could be expected as far as the style of the new album was concerned Eric would only comment, “Imagine if Trent Reznor had produced (Prodigy’s latest album) ‘Invaders Must Die.’ Somewhere around that.” (source: press release)

Soulchasm “All I Have to Give” Viva Music Album Review:

“All I Have to Give” is a very interesting album, all the more if you consider the number of mixes and reworks of the songs included. All things considered, it is one more piece of evidence in the heated debate over what creativity and passion can amount to, in today’s technologically evolved scene. And it single-handedly tilts the balance in favor of saying, a lot. Creativity and passion can still work wonders, and here’s one album to prove that. With its great musical scoop, the album succeeds in being convincing, fresh, and a thoroughly good listen.

“So Persistent” is one such example of a good song. With its constructed energy and esthetics of sound, it can surely sit on the same shelf with music you’ve listened to and resort to listening to frequently. It is ambiental and dancefloor friendly at the same time, virtues that usually go with tracks which are versatile in essence. “Love Is Real“, which was also released as a single, is darker in tones, and harsher in sound, but envelops in one move the listener in a bubble. Seething with emotion and definitely not an anonymous track, “Love Is Real” comes from the same vigor of the vein which gives “My Facade” and “Call Me Back” to the world. A definite ‘like’ goes for “Carry On“, a song which perspires complexity and refinement. And there is also “All I Have to Give“, also available as a remix single release, a superb and well-wrought piece of electronica.

Most of the songs from the album “All I Have to Give” benefit from mixes and instrumental versions, all in a wonderful musical voyage apt to keep your urge to dance at high levels, but also keeping your feet on the ground in the real, emotional background of your life. It is a savory listen, and of course, making you want more. Enjoy!

“Inertia are the best and most aggressive band in London.” – Gary Numan

Current lineup: INERTIA are Reza Udhin, Alexys B, Kneill X and Andrew Lowlife.

Tracklist: “Deworld” * “Anticulture” * “Feed” * “Feline Fantasy” * “Repeat & Follow” * “Alien” * “Strange Familiar” * “Gone” * “Fallout” * “Round and Round” * “Capture”

About the album: Hot off the back of a daring covers album “Kloned” and a club-hit single “Repeat & Follow”, London’s electro-industrial veterans Inertia are back with “Deworlded”, their first full-length album since 2007′s “Inertia”. Eighteen years and multiple line-up changes have re-shuffled Inertia into a veritable electronic-super-group comprising members from Killing Joke, Electro-Falco, Killer B Movie and Swarf, all of who show off their prowess on this latest offering.

“Deworlded” is conceptually strong and musically well-executed album. From the opening bars of the first track, the album takes you on a journey, compelling you to step outside of yourself and take a look at your life. It isn’t a preachy album though. Instead the band’s musical pedigree has allowed them to utilize their skills to create a collection of club-friendly songs with a lot more going on below the surface.

There are plenty of stand-out hits to ensnare fans of all electro sub-genres. “Deworld”, the album’s opener, is a slinky groove-laden affair that recalls the classic EBM sound of the ’90s. “Feed” on the other hand, is an up-tempo electro-rock track with a solid, driving beat. The album’s lead single, “Repeat & Follow”, is a fantastic slice of modern electro-industrial that is both hard and infectious with a sing-a-long chorus for good measure. Whereas “Gone” is a high energy synthpop number with a strong electronic-percussion lead and memorable melody. (source)

VIVA MUSIC “Deworlded” album review:

“Deworlded” (November 2010, with Cryonica Music) is an album about alienation; not in a classical, existential way, but about the alienation brought about by the day to day course of life, the one that we presumably live while immersed in what we deem to be reality at its utmost. With an intriguing start up in the guise of the mesmerizing track “Deworld”, the album gains in shape and substance with each and every track. There isn’t a breathing space in “Deworlded”; leaving the listener to choose between listening to the album in one gulp or postponing the listening in one gulp – there are not half-measures with INERTIA.

“Anticulture” is, as the title of the song goes, a manifesto with a moderately fast pace, aimed at replacing our preconceptions about culture. Melodically very pertinent, “Anticulture” is also a powerful statement which builds very Depeche Mode-esque tension. The ensuing track, “Feed” is an alert and vibrating track, and adds up to the expectations created by the previous tracks of the album, at the same time confirming them. “Feline Fantasy” also adds a more danceable edge to the album, and is definitely one of the tracks that stick to mind after listening to “Deworlded”.

“Repeat&Follow” definitely does what it says, since the immediate impulse on listening to it is to obediently listen to it again. Just like “Alien”, “Feline Fantasy” and “Repeat&Follow” would definitely group on for a club setlist, with their very incisive sound and finely tuned emotion.

If the same holds true of “Strange Familiar”, it is also because of the added value brought about by the majestically entwined instruments on this track. If you think that “strange” and “familiar” have nothing to do together, then you definitely need to listen to this track in order to grasp the internal contradiction that the title’s oxymoron comprises and delivers in a very memorable manner. “Gone” and “Fallout” are ineluctable energy-packed boosters, while “Round and Round” seems a truly empowering experience and at the same time a hide-and-seek game that involves the body, the mind, and the soul. Last but not least, the song that closes the album, “Capture”, playing on undertones of bereavement and unrequited sentiment, is a wonderful conclusion for “Deworlded”, just like the album itself, it is articulate, sentient, and memorable.

About [TDF]:

TourdeForce is an eclectronic music project from Bergamo, Italy, dated 2004. With a 2010 release of their album “Colours in Life” with Breakdown Records, usually hailed as fresh and original in an overly saturated electronic and alternative scene, and with live performances in 2011 with acts such as Covenant and Frozen Plasma, [TDF] have a message about decadence, loss of tragic sentiment, love and the dark side of love, with a feel for introspection and taking nuanced inspiration from literature, sociology, psychology and cinema.

TourdeForce – “Colours in Life” – Viva Music Album Review:

Artwork By – NON * Electric Guitar – Max Raiden, Samuele Palazzolo (tracks: 14) * Lyrics by – Christian Ryder * Mastered By – Alessio Sogno * Mixed By – Alessio Sogno, Christian Ryder * Photography – Marcello Modica, NON, Vittorio Bedogna * Programmed By – Christian Ryder * Recorded By – Lucky Chiva * Vocals – Christian Ryder, Eric Raven, Roby Bergamini * Written by – Christian Ryder, Eric Raven

“Colours in Life” was a fine discovery – be it a little later than our usual pace of reviews, but worthwhile if we think of the bounty of sound it brought about. A solid and packed material, “Colours in Life”, released in April 2010 with Breakdown Records is not only a good example of what today’s electronica amounts to, but also a series of quite bright samples of the above genre.

“I Am the Phoenix” is love from the first listen. A song that combines regenerative powers and retro beats, “I Am the Phoenix” is a track that makes you think of your favorite tracks of the 1980’s preserving at the same time identity and specificity, and bringing to the foundation a well needed electro upgrade. “Modern Affair” is explosive and seductive, and a really complex composition, followed by “Grey Is not Enough”. We were very happy to discover, after going through the entire album and selecting this very track as a VIVA MUSIC favorite that indeed it is Christian Ryder’s own favorite of his own music from this album, as he confessed in a 2010 interview. A melancholic, yet groovy and superb piece, “Grey Is not Enough” is a great listen and a mood booster that you need to keep in your survival playlist for sure!

“What You Wanna Do with Your Life” is less technically inspired than previous tracks, but nevertheless carries on a complex texture message-wise and puts a limit situation in context. We liked “Dancing Days”, although on a first listen it is difficult to place it in the album – that is to say, the 3-some tracks listened to before did not strike so evidently eclectic as this one here, so “Dancing Days” deserves a separate entry, most likely one on how to give the entire album a facelift with just one track! So is “Love Hideout”; though emotive in constructions, it musters the power to convince. Next, “Masterplan” is truly a master plan, with enough action movie and quest game prompts, a master plan which is about survival and keeping reality within the bounds of sanity.

“Psychoanalysis for the Masses”, a track interspersed with dream-like fragments from Lord Byron in Italian force upon the listener the feeling of darkness and monumentality, dimensions that are mapped on the song itself. After a crystalline interlude provided via “Breathe with Me”, a very pure edge and really teasing and sensuous atmosphere is enacted in “We’re NOT Underground”, a song that redefines the notion of underground itself. “Marry Me”, a powerful, anthemic, electronic piece, eclectic in the choice of instrument is next, a truly refined track followed by “Stagioni” – if we don’t count in the hidden track “Consensi”, it is the only track in Italian on the album, thus providing one of the rare instances when electronica with Italian lyrics is at stake, and does a wonderful job. The mini-story on the encounter of lovers is cut short by a song from the same vein that gave you earlier “Masterplan”, namely a tell-tale titled “Interrupted Boys”.

“Colours in Life” is strong, atmospheric, enticing, intellectual but at the same time playful – the longest track on the album, and also the one that gives the title of the album, it is full of turns and upheavals, while the lyric-less interval opens up a seamless space where music is, pure and simple, at ease.

A closing “Consensi” is hidden in the album, again, a song in Italian, oozing with cultural references that are resorted to in order to explain what happens when we need cultural artifacts in order to make sense of feelings and antagonisms.

“Colours in Life” is a great album worth listening to and listening to again. The fresh add-on it brings to electronic music may not be apparent to omnivorous listeners, but to the few that dwell a lot on electronica it will for sure have that special tingling that tells, this is a good find, and more, one to cherish.

Cylix are: plasmaG (aka George Lamparis; synth, guitar, programming & arrangements) and Harry (aka Harry Grypaios; vocals, programming), a Greek synthpop, electro and EBM duo formed in 2000. On and off on the most prominent club venues and on the Greek scene, they took a professional twist until the release of their debut album, “Alpha” with Life Is Painful Records in late 2010, and they are now listed as a top-selling artist on the prestigious merchandiser site poponaut.de.

Cylix claim their influences from artists such as De/Vision, Mesh, Front 242, Apoptygma Berzerk, Neuroticfish, but also VNV Nation and Covenant. As a convincing mash-up of beloved acts of the EBM and synthpop scenes, Cylix provide great listening material (and club scene material) on their debut “Alpha“, with a luminous set of 9+2 (nine original tracks; two remixes). While it would sound convenient to assume that a core set of recognizable tunes of their influencers is audible in their album, it becomes a far-fetched conclusion once you hit play: the album inundates one’s ears with quality synthpop, generously rounded up by EBM in a suite of breathtaking tracks. “Enter” is obviously the first track of the compilation, breaking ground with fresh and persuasive sound, and it is followed at a quick pace by the band’s acclaimed “So Much for Love“, a track that comes in a musical couplet with its remix by Lights of Euphoria, “So Much for Love: Lights of Euphoria Cafe Mix“, and that diverts the original strictly synth score to a more EBM-friendly tune. “Miles Divide” irrupts in a very majestic manner next, and “Heal Me” continues a tradition of great tracks bearing this name. “Heal Me” also benefits from a tremendously intelligent remix, “Heal Me: Psyche After Hours Mix” in the remix section of the album. Mention should be made when it comes to these tracks of the verbal clarity and enticing tone of the voice: Harry does a great job as the maitre d’ who ushers you into the realm of Cylix.

“Don’t Let Me Fade” is a great track worth listening to on repeat and, if it hasn’t gotten too much air- and club-time, it surely will – its presence is contagious to the ear, and it has a tune that’s easy to carry on – and pleasurable, too. “Keine Zeit” is a generous display of melodious, synchronized instrument & voice excellence. You should, however, know you’re in for a surprise, since “Deepest Fear” is about to knock you out. Last but not least, “Exit” concludes the album with, again, a generous and multidimensional track with a beat and a twist.

German duo SHADOW MINDS (Charly Barth-Ricklefs and Michael Nielsen) tell us their truth in their latest album “The Arc of Truth” (September 2010, Danse Macabre Records). After one maxi CD entitled “Nemesis” (2006) and one full album called “Extend the Line” (2008) released with Nordlicht Records, SHADOW MINDS go full-blast with their EBM and synth-pop new album “The Arc of Truth” with Danse Macabre Records – home, among others, of BEATI MORTUI, DAS ICH, OTTO DIX or ROSENCRANZ.

The album comprises 14 original compositions, including one collaboration with ISAAC JUNKIE. Overall, the album charms from the very first beats, and does a great deal of moving around techniques and genres, to the extent that no one song resembles the other, and there is pure quality in the album’s composition and musical layout. “Standing Up”, the album’s first thrust, proposes an emancipated sound, which sounds modern and fresh, with Charly’s vocals unobtrusively fitting into the song. “Standing Up” is about the prominence of one’s own opinions in any life situation.

“Beyond the Grave” comes up next, with a piercing sound that calls up for a time of forgiveness and friendship that outlasts life itself. “You Drive Me Insane”, a jilted lover’s electro-lament, keeps the permanence of the previous track by talking about a belief in love till the end of time. A wonderful reflection on an idyllic past that needs not be forgotten, “Fight Your Way Back to Life”, an album favorite at VIVA MUSIC, does not add up to saying there’s no future: “You’ll be saved in the near future” sounds reassuring coming from SHADOW MINDS’ credibility base!

A better future seems to be the running red thread of the next song, too: “Reality” is a powerful blast about the uselessness of fantasy when it comes to reconciling one’s expectations and one’s vital environment. With a great electro ballad texture, “The World Is out of Joint”, connives with the thought that life is limited and useless, but that should not harden one to the point of being unresponsive to things that should truly distress us, such as children’s death and other calamities.

“Rain” comes up as a refreshing and intimate song, about a redeeming rain that obliviates all distress. “Bitter Suffering”, suffused with a feeling of immediacy and a delicate beat, narrates the story of a heartbreaking father and son separation. Being held back from the intimidating paternity for undisclosed reasons, the father wishes that life’s lessons bestowed upon him should reach the son, and therefore the son may one day understand the reasons behind the separation.

It is then time for SHADOW MINDS to give us a command to “Wake Up”, if not to a new morning, then out of the routine of living for trifling things, urging everyone to live more significant lives. It is the same message that “True Face” carries on, as well as the decisive “Homeland Calls”, with a military beat, that tells about the ridiculousness of fighting for one’s homeland in a distant land, when nothing compromises, really, your nation.

“Journey” opens the final sequence in the album, with a dual cry, in order to forget/in order to remember. The song, in itself a gem, is about a sacrificial departure, where the departing party feels a little bit like dying, echoing the verse from Edmond de Haraucourt’s “Rondel de l’Adieu” (“Partir, c’est mourir un peu”). “Waiting” is the ultimate proof one needs that SHADOW MINDS’ sound is not only mature, but also significantly personal: a song that tells you that absence can call up the most intense feelings, just like presence, and that bedecks itself in great atmosphere. “Walking Away”, the song featuring ISAAC JUNKIE, tells the story of broken hearts being unable to love – it has a special feel to it, and an undeniable anthem quality, that shows great appetite in creating music from the band’s members.

To sum up, the album is a wonderful creation and throws a totally fresh musical persona on the scene. If there are people who had their doubts, or were left wondering after a reverently reviewed “Extend the Line”, they should desist and fall in love, irremediably, with SHADOW MINDS.

Neuwelt Music, Ireland’s one and only Electro, Industrial and Dark Music Webzine, and Viva Music, your local Romanian dark, electro, industrial, Gothic, synth, EBM, aggrotech promoter are happy to announce their partnership for the promotion of music and love of music. ‘We have dreams and beliefs. We love all kind of creativity. Our passion is music, and that’s why we are here for you’, say Neuwelt Music representatives, and this creed is completely shared by their Romanian counterpart, Viva Music.

Devoted to promoting quality, non-mainstream music that yields more than commercial interest, Neuwelt Music’s team is a recent debutante of the webspace, having made their first steps out of the dark in May 2010.
